Cheddar Broccoli Gratin with French Fried Onions

Great for the holidays and weeknight dinners alike.
Ingredients:
2 lb broccoli florets, fresh or frozen |
3 tablespoons unsalted butter |
3 tablespoons flour |
1 1/2 cups whole milk |
1/4 teaspoon onion powder |
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon sea salt |
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
2 cups grated sharp cheddar |
1/2 cup crumbled croutons |
1/2 cup French fried onions |
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375° F. Grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray.
- Steam fresh broccoli for 5 minutes or frozen broccoli for 10 minutes. Transfer the broccoli to the baking dish.
- Bring a saucepan to medium heat and melt the butter. Then add the flour. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Stir in the whole milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil while stirring regularly. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the grated cheddar.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the broccoli. Sprinkle the crumbled croutons and French fried onions over top.
- Place the dish into the oven and bake for 30 minutes, until the top is lightly browned.
