Cheesy Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Serves 4

The adult version of the classic meal.

Ingredients:

16 oz elbow macaroni
1 lb ground sausage
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups shredded Italian blend cheese
2 cups shredded parmesan cheese
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions, drain water and set aside. Grease a 4-quart casserole dish with cooking spray, set aside.
  3. Bring a large skillet to medium heat, brown sausage and garlic for about 10 minutes. Drain excess oil from pan. Add butter and stir in flour, cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add chicken broth and heavy cream and bring to a boil, stirring frequently for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cooked macaroni, 2 cups shredded Italian blend cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Pour into prepared casserole and top with shredded Parmesan cheese. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, the top should be golden brown.
