Give your burgers an Italian twist!
Ingredients:
1 pound hot Italian sausage, casings removed |
8 ounces ground pork |
2 cloves garlic, pressed |
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning |
Freshly ground black pepper, to season |
1/4 cup mayonnaise |
1/4 cup minced, drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes |
1 red bell pepper, quartered lengthwise |
4 sweet onion slices, 1/2-inch thick |
4 slices provolone cheese |
4 hamburger rolls, split in half horizontally |
Directions:
- In a large bowl, mix together first 4 ingredients. Season with pepper. Shape mixture into four 3/4-inch thick patties. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise and tomatoes.
- Prepare barbecue for medium-high heat. Grill burgers, bell pepper and onions for about 10 minutes, or until burgers are cooked through and peppers and onions are slightly charred. Move peppers and onions to cool side of grill. Top burgers with provolone cheese. Set rolls, cut side down, on grill. Close grill lid for about 2 minutes, until cheese on burgers is melted and buns are heated. Spread 3/4 tablespoon of sun-dried tomato mayonnaise on each bun half. Top with burger, onions and bell pepper. Cover with remaining bun halves then serve.
