Rate this Recipe

Serves 6

Great as a snack, for lunch, or dinner.

Ingredients:

6 cubed steaks
2 cups whole buttermilk
1 cup flour
25 saltine crackers, crushed
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon paprika
2 large eggs
1/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Peanut oil, for frying

Directions:

  1. Tenderize the steak to 1/2-inch thickness. Then cut into strips.
  2. Place the steak strips into a bowl. Pour in the buttermilk. Place in the refrigerator for 3 hours.
  3. Combine half of the flour and the crushed saltines in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle the garlic powder, seasoned salt, and paprika over top. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In the third bowl, combine the remaining flour and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Take one steak strip and coat it with the flour mixture. Then dip it in the egg mixture. Then coat it with the cracker mixture. Lay the battered steak strip on a baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining steak strips.
  5. Pour about 3 inches of peanut oil into a large frying pan. Bring to high heat.
  6. Once the oil temperature is up to 325 degrees F, cook the steak strips in batches of four for 4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack to drain.
  7. Serve the steak fingers with your favorite dipping sauce or a homestyle gravy. Enjoy!
