Classic Barbecue Sauce

Serves 2 1/2 cups

A delicious homemade barbecue sauce.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

  1. Warm the oil in a saucepan that is set over medium heat.
  2. Add onion to saucepan; cook and stir for 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic to saucepan; cook and stir for 30 seconds.
  4. Add ketchup, chili powder, cayenne, sugar, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce to saucepan; bring ingredients to a slow simmer and cook, partially covered, for about 20 minutes, until sauce has thickened.
